When I was growing up, I often heard this phrase “Coming event cast their shadow before.” Well, that is not applied to the real life only, sometimes it’s also effective for others. This time, it is for Tiago, a hatch that recently launched in the Indian car segment by the native automaker Tata Motors. Since the day when it was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, it has been making quite a sensation among the buyers for its name, design, all-new platform and powertrain as well. Having these all, it has now achieved a great milestone, garnering over 50,000 bookings in just 5 months.
The waiting period that was earlier fixed near two to three months has now moved forward to four months. Mr. Mayank Pareek said, "We launched Tiago on 6th April and ever since, months after months, it is continuously increasing, we just have more than 50,000 bookings. Every month, the number we are touching is around 5,000 and as I said, 50,000 bookings, the waiting period on particular variants, is more than four months."
On the mechanical front, the Tata Tiago is currently offering in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit of the hatchback is fitted with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, Revotron trim that generates a maximum power of 84 BHP and 114 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner, on the other side, is powered by a 1.05-litre three-cylinder, Revotorq unit that can run the car with a power of 69 Bhp and a torque of 140 Nm. Both the motors come mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox while the company is also planning to bring an AMT box for this hatch.
Looking at the increasing demand, Tata is also working on introducing a special edition of the same. Christened as Tiago Sport, it will make its debut with a more powerful turbocharged petrol engine that is good for producing 120 Bhp of power. In his statement further he mentioned, “The main trigger behind the success of the Tiago is the design. We are seeing a different set of customers for Tiago. Young executives and young families are buying the Tiago.”
