Tata Zest Scored Four Star In NCAP Crash Test

The much anticipated compact sedan, Tata Zest has achieved a 4-star rating in the adult occupant safety and 2-star in child protection test organised by the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) as a part of #SaferCarofIndia Campaign. The four-star rating was achieved by the Zest with the safety equipment including the two airbags and two pre-tensioners.
Earlier, the standard version of the Tata Zest with no airbags received zero-star for adult passengers safety and one-star in child occupant protection. After that, the Global NCAP offered a chance to the Tata Motors to test another version of the Zest with more safety equipment. In order to improve the safety aspects in next opportunity, Tata revised the body frame of the entire Zest rage. And the new version of the Tata Zest with optional airbags was tested by the Global NCAP and the results are here. Tata also worked on the rear seat child occupant protection and introduced the upgraded child restraint system for the airbag version.
Satisfied by the results, Tata has decided to introduce the structural improvements on the entire Zest range for both optional airbag and non-airbag vehicles.

Commenting on the score achieved by the Tata Zest, David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP, said, “It is encouraging to see a major Indian brand improving the safety of their models. We strongly encourage Indian consumers to opt for the much safer 4-star rated option. We also urge Tata to consider making the two airbag version of the Zest their basic model.”
Rohit Baluja, president of Institute of Road Traffic Education, said, “The concept of star rating should not be limited to compliance, but should be taken as the challenge of producing a safe vehicle that would have the ability to support the avoidance of a crash, limiting the injury to vehicle occupants and that of people outside the vehicle in case of a crash.”
