Who knows the MPV segment better than Toyota. In the growing demands of premium vehicles, the Japanese auto manufacturer is working to enhance the MPV segment with the luxury touch and blue drive technology. If the report from Overdrive is to be believed, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is planning to launch the premium luxury MPV, Alphard hybrid in India. However, there is no official confirmation on it. The report also suggests that the India launch of Alphard MPV is not sometimes nearby, it is probably a year away.
Considering the MPV market in India, Toyota Innova is largest selling car in the country. There are not many options in this segment, as the opponents barely stand against the segment topper, Innova. So, Toyota itself comes forward to offer the luxury comfort with the same space, and the blue powertrain (hybrid).

The Alphard is full-size luxury MPV with the seating capacity of seven (2+2+3 arrangement) passenger. After recently launched Innova Crysta, Toyota knows that there is still a space for a luxury class MPV, and to fill this gap, Alphard could just be the people’s choice. Plus, the Alphard comes with the hybrid powertrain, which will provide strength to Toyota’s eco-friendly driving approach. As Toyota is about to launch the third generation Prius sedan hybrid in India in the upcoming two or three months.
On the power front, globally the Alphard is offered with the same 2.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain that also powers brand’s Camry hybrid which is already on sale in the country. The only question left is its price, well, the newest MPV, Innova Crysta launched with the price tag of INR 26 Lakh, as the Alphard is a premium luxury car the segment it is expected to be priced around INR 50 Lakh. However, the car will come equipped with the premium fitments to justify the expensive price tag.
