As Triumph initiated its headquarters in Hinckley, UK, last month, the company revealed the fresh cruiser in India at India Bike Week 2017. Now, one more good news from the company is that the Speedmaster is going to launch in India by April 2018. It is expected that at the time of launch in India, the bike will be priced at Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
The latest neo-retro cruiser is the fresh inclusion of Triumph\'s Bonneville range and will take inspiration from the Bonneville Bobber. Considering the cruiser attributes, the bike has forward-set footpegs and swept-back handlebars to maintain more comfortable riding positioning. Not like the Bobber, the new cruiser obtains a lengthy split saddle setup to manage two sittings. To shower some old appearance, the bike acquires a modern LED bulb, LED daytime running lights, and the round headlamp. A single-pod speedometer accompanied with a small looking LCD screen that shows details is mounted on the noodle of the headlamp.
The Speedmaster is powered by a 1200cc, liquid cooled, parallel-twin engine inspired from the Bonneville Bobber motor. The engine of the bike is able to churn out a maximum power of 77PS at 6100rpm and a peak torque of 106Nm at 4000rpm. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Suspension of the bike is done by 41mm telescopic forks along with 90mm of wheel travel up front and an adjustable monoshock setup along with 73mm of rear wheel travel at the rear end. Braking arrangement is handled by twin 310mm discs in relation to twin-piston Brembo floating calipers up front and a single 255mm disc along with a single-piston floating caliper from Nissin at the rear end. The ABS (anti-braking system) is standard on the Speedmaster. Comparing with the bobber, the Speedmaster obtains a 19-inch and 16-inch wheels at front and rear respectively, the new cruiser has a 16-inch spokes unit which is same at both ends.
To increase the touring capabilities, the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster is equipped with a 12-litre fuel tank whereas the bobber, on the other side, takes a smaller 9.1-litre tank. The cruiser bike also takes ride-by-wire throttle for better operability along with provides two riding modes which are rain and road. Some other addition includes cruise control and switchable traction control as standard. The saddle height in the Speedmaster is 705mm as compared to the bobber’s saddle height which is 690mm. This is why the former has coarse cushioning that provides long distance riding a more convenient. The bike consists the kerb weight of 245.5kg which makes it heavy bike in the Bonneville range.
The Speedmaster comes with two customizable variants which are Highway and Maverick. The Maverick variant obtains a flatter handlebar and a single seat whereas the Highway variant gets an adjustable windscreen, split seats, a backrest for the pillion and a small luggage carrier as standard. In addition, the maverick kit has a Vance & Hines exhaust and other smaller bits, are colored black. The highway variant takes panniers on either side and maintains all the chrome elements from the standard cruiser.
At the time of launch, the Speedmaster will be the rival of Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom and Indian Scout Sixty.
