Triumph Motorcycles has launched 2019 Street Twin version in its Indian lineup. In product portfolio here, this entry-level offering from British manufacturer sits below the Bonneville range and go against the rival in the segment, the Ducati Scrambler Icon. Here in this post, we are going to compare these two opponents on the basis of aspects written below

Design:

At the designing front, the 2019 Street Twin model is carrying forward the Triumph’s modern classic body language seen on the models like the Bonneville T100 and T120. For the Calendar Year 2019, the bike maker gave the motorcycle a cosmetic makeover to give it a refreshing look. The motorcycle now packs a new seat, alloy wheels, redesigned side panels, headlamp bracket, front fender and an improved instrument cluster as well. In addition to this, a new matte black colour scheme has also been introduced in order to expand colour choices for the buyers.

On the other side, the Scrambler Ico from the legendary Italian marquee Ducati is a perfect amalgamation of old school styling and modern technology. The motorcycle offers an upright yet comfortable riding position with the presence of wide handlebar. The components which complete the look of Scrambler Icon includes round headlamp and eccentrically-mounted instrument cluster.

Attributes:

The Street Twin which already comes equipped with the features like ride-by-wire, traction control and ABS as standard fitment, has now got two riding modes-Road and Rain as the standard for the 2019 model year update. Additionally, a tyre monitoring system is also being provided as an optional extra.

The competition from Ducati on the other hand, the Scrambler Icon offers the facility of a LED DRL bezel wrapped around the LED headlamp, adjustable levers and hydraulic clutch control. As compared to the 2019 Street Twin, the electronic package on the Scrambler Icon only has dual-channel cornering ABS sourced from Bosch. While the options like traction control and riding modes are not part of bike’s equipment list.

Powertrain:

Underneath the fuel tank, the powertrain among the bikes in questions shares a common aspect of being a twin-cylinder unit. However, the different configuration transmits different power churn to the rear wheel. The Street Twin with an 899cc parallel-twin motor uses the maximum power of 64bhp and the peak torque of 80 Nm. FYI, the churned power is an improved unit over the predecessor by 10 bhp while the torque continues to be the same. It is attained with the alteration made on the powertrain with the inclusion of a lighter crankshaft, balancer and magnesium covers for the cylinder head. With such modifications, the engine unit not only gets lighter in weight but also sports in getting increased power.

The updated Street Twin now mounts on a new suspension unit of 41mm telescopic forks which are cartridge type units. At the rear, the bike suspends over the identical dual shocks seen on the earlier model. The braking duties on the model updated for 2019 are performed via a 310mm disc upfront armed with a new four-pot caliper setup sourced from Brembo. While the rear gets a 255mm disc with a two-pot Nissin caliper.

On the other hand, the Italian model uses 41mm inverted forks up front and a preload adjustable rear monoshock for damping duties. Both the units are borrowed from Kayaba. While a pair of 330mm disc and 245mm unit with respective Brembo four-pot radial caliper and a single-piston floating caliper take care of stopping responsibilities.
