Earlier, Volkswagen's upcoming compact sedan was rumoured to be called Ameo, but a video asked the public to guess its name. This led people to believe that maybe the rumour was wrong. However, the company has recently named the car Ameo, which has put an end to all the speculations. This term is derived from a Latin word “Amo” that means “I Love”. The model will make its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and its production will commence at company's Chakan plant located in Pune.
As per the automobile brand, "Volkswagen Ameo is a truly special offering that combines the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The design language is underlined by general bursts of emotion, conceptualized to move the body, mind and soul."
The all new Ameo is actually carved from the Polo model and has been imparted an additional boot at the end, to turn it from a hatch into a compact sedan. Its image hasn't been disclosed except for the spy shots that indicate a striking similarity between the two cars. The interior is also speculated to be an exact copy of that found in Polo and Vento including fitments like 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, 2DIN music system with Bluetooth compatibility, and automatic climate control. Safety will be ensured via dual front airbags, ABS and EBD.
Mechanically, there will be a 1.2 litre MPI 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.5 litre TDI 4-cylinder diesel motor. The former one would pump out 75PS/110Nm, whereas the latter would be good enough to make 90PS/230Nm. These motors will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Besides, this, a 1.2 litre TSI petrol motor could also be made available, coupled to a 7-speed DSG facility.
