Volkswagen Polo GTI Indian Launch to be held in March 2016

Lately, reports were doing the rounds that Volkswagen could soon launch the Polo GTI for the Indian market. The model has also been spotted recently undergoing test in Pune, which led to a lot of speculation. Some fresh reports have disclosed that the car will be launched in the country in March 2016. The variants namely GT TSI and GT TDI have been added recently and now the automaker is planning to roll out TSI. With this update, Volkswagen is clearly aiming at dethroning the Fiat Abarth Punto in order to lead in the hot hatch segment.

Mechanically, the variant will be packed with a 1.8 litre TSI petrol motor that is also found in Skoda Octavia and Audi A3. This engine has the caliber to develop maximum power of 177Bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. Transmission will be taken care of by a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission in Indian spec model. However, the international markets are served with an optional facility of a manual gearbox as well. Apart from this, the suspension and braking facility will also be tweaked so as to offer more efficient driving dynamics.

Since it is not a proper facelift, we believe the cosmetic features will remain unaltered much like the GT TSI and GT TDI models. As per the anticipations, it might be priced around INR 14 Lacs and that would mean it should be carrying necessary features that are sought after by majority of prospective buyers for comfort and safety. The brand is also working on introducing a compact sedan specifically for India and has invested INR 720 Crores for the venture.
