Volvo India has confirmed about the plans to introduce the hybrid cars in the Indian market this year. However, the carmaker has not revealed the lineup that we will see in the Indian market. It is expected to offer the new XC90 at first.
Volvo Chief executives are looking forward to launch the hybrid models due to rise in the prices of the diesel models in many countries including Europe. Some countries have also set tight emission rule, therefore the company has decided to bring hybrid cars into the market as early as possible. The company believes that this will attract more consumers and the vehicles won’t have to face any problem as the cars will follow the emission rules.
So later this year, we may expect the petrol hybrid version of the XC90 model. Mechanically, the XC90 Plug-In Hybrid comes with a T8 Twin Engine, which is also Volvo's first 7-seater plug-in hybrid electric car. The top variant of the XC90 gets a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol Drive-E engine along with a rear axle electric motor. The gasoline mill powers the front wheels, while the 80bhp electric motor runs the rear wheels.
In the global market, the XC90 hybrid is available in three variants, namely, Momentum, R-Design and Inscription. If launched in India, this car would cost something around INR 42-44 lakhs.
