Volvo V90 Cross Country India Launch by mid-2017

Sweden-based luxury automobili, Volvo is in the move to expand its Indian portfolio and this time with a station wagon. The carmaker is planning to add an estate V90 Cross Country to its Indian line-up by the mid of 2017.

However, in India the estate cars or station wagons are hardly sighted, thanks to the SUVs that have a much similar stance and offer similar utility. But no more drought of station wagons in the country, as the Swedish carmaker which is largely popular across the globe for producing the luxury estate cars, all set to change the trend in India soon.

Coming to the standard V90 which is an estate version of premium, design and styling S90 luxury sedan, has received several updates since its birth. A few months back, the estate V90 gets the R-design model along with the S90 sedan. And now, the carmaker is bringing the estate car in Cross Country avatar.

Volvo already has V40 cross country and S60 Cross Country on sale in India, the V90 Cross Country will be slotted above all. In the global market, the new station wagon features more aggressive front fascia, rugged scuff plates at the front and rear and the black cladding all around the bodywork.

However, the Indian version V90 will also get some additional equipment to enhance its sporty appeals, such as roof rails, higher ground clearance and all-wheel drive system. Apart from all these, the car has a class-leading boot space of 560-litre which can be further expanded to the 1,526 litres by folding the second row.

Under the hood, the V90 Cross Country is expected to use a more powerful 225hp D5 engine from the XC90, instead of the 190 hp D4 Diesel mill from the India-spec S90. However, it will be mated to the same 8-speed automatic transmission.

Besides Volvo, a few major automakers are also planning to step-in the Indian estate segment which is believed to be the potential market. Audi has plans for its own rugged estate in the form of the A6 AllRoad to launch in India this year. There is also talk about Mercedes-Benz that could also introduce the E-Class All-Terrain.
