In 2019, Yamaha seems to have big plans. It is all set to introduce the first model of this year on January 21. However, it’s unsure which model will be launched by the Japanese automaker. Speculations suggest the next generation Yahama FZ-FI which had spotted several times performing test runs in the country could mark its presence on the mentioned date.
Evidently, the new FZ will draw its styling cues from the bigger sibling FZ250. The headlamp assembly and the LED lights will also be shared units from the later. A massive fuel tank is a revised unit with extended shrouds. While the spilled seat has been replaced with the single seat configuration. From the set of spy images, the upcoming seems to have a revised rear section with new tyre hugger along with belly pan as a standard unit. The tail lamp and turn indicators, on the other hand, seem alike to the current generation motorcycle.
Mechanically, the next generation Yamaha FZ-FI will be packed with the same 149cc, the single-cylinder engine of the ongoing model. The engine is rated to generate the peak power around 13bhp along with 12.8Nm of peak torque. While the transmission will be handled via a 5-speed gearbox. However, with the updated model we could see sort of electronic adjustments to improve power and torque delivery.

The underpinned cycle parts such as the suspension setup and the brakes are being considered to the similar units of the current model. There will be conventional telescopic forks up front and monoshock at the rear to complete the suspension setup. On a happy note, the motorcycle will be offered with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) as the standard unit.
If the pricing is concerned, the new Yamaha FZ-FI will be tagged with the price tag premium around INR 8-10,000 over the outgoing model. In the segment, the newbie will see the competition with the likes of Honda X-Blade, Bajaj Pulsar NS160, and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
