Yamaha Motor India has established a new R&D center in India in order to move a step ahead towards its 'Make in India' commitment by 2018. With an investment of INR 66 crore, the company is focusing on manufacturing more products via this new amenity and facilitating its presence in the Indian as well as global markets.
Situated in the Yamaha Motor's plant in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, this new establishment will ensure prototype testing and validation as well. Moreover, a test track has been prepared to evaluate the performance of the bike on the Indian terrain conditions.
During the inauguration ceremony, Yasuo Ishihara, managing director, YMRI, commented, "The objective of the new Centre is to develop models for India and eventually, the Global market. The Chennai Centre shall be the second main pillar for YMRI. By collaboration with the current development power in Surajpur centre, we aim to strengthen more of the cost reduction and attractive product development in the Chennai centre. The key role of this India Integrated Development Center is to develop optimised specifications for the Indian market."
Yamaha has a mindset of increasing its line-up to fit the requirements of the native and the buyers worldwide. Meanwhile, the company wants to maintain the balance between performance, innovation, design, style, and sportiness as well. Earlier, Yamaha has made a commitment to invest Rs. 1500 crore by 2018 under the ‘Make in India’ concept. The concept was initiated to achieve company’s goals in the country and this plan was a part of that scheme. In order to retrieve higher sales targets, the brand has launched the Saluto RX- its first motorcycle from the INDRA project.

Examining the graph of Yamaha’s recently launched bikes, the automaker has introduced some interesting products since the starting of the last financial year. The list comprises of the motorcycles like the Saluto 125, Saluto RX, YZF-R3, YZF-R15S and the Ray-ZR. By this newly inaugurated facility, we can anticipate that the Indian arm of the Japanese firm will bring us some more exciting two-wheelers ahead.
