India Yamaha Motors has announced a recall for its full fairing motorcycle offering, the Yamaha YZF-R3 owing to defects in the fuel tank bracket and main switch sub assembly.
The recall is been followed by the Yamaha’s global R3 recall issued in the U.S. in this recall, the Indian colossal of Japanese giant manufacturer has been called back almost all the bikes sold since its launch in the country in 2015.
An official statement from Yamaha stated, "The YZF-R3 is an exceptional performer and has been very successful on Indian roads. Recently, the parent company Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd., Japan has detected a defect in its Fuel Tank Bracket and Main Switch Sub Assy and has announced a recall. In India, this will affect 1155 vehicles."
According to Yamaha’s report, being defective fuel tank bracket of the R3 may move owing to engine vibrations, which could crack fuel tank and the start leaking fuel. Besides, the other considered issue of the defective power switch that had the tendency of being corroded from water in the environment like rain and cold, which would disable the motorcycle to start the engine.
Yamaha India is contacting 1155 affected customers to bring their YZF-R3s for free of cost replacement of defected fuel tank bracket and the main switch assembly. If you are an affected customer from the same issue and not been contacted yet, you can contact the nearest Yamaha dealership for free examination and rectification of your bike.
In competition with the available rivals in the segment like the KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300, the Yamaha R3 is powered by a 321cc twin-cylinder motor that propels out the maximum power of 41 bhp and a peak torque of 29.5Nm via a mated 6-speed gearbox.
