BitTorrent is a boon for many users worldwide especially those who are too much into movies. But, with Indian Government banning all the major torrent sites over the Internet has sent a wave of panic among a wide range of torrent users. The BitTorrent client is only available for Android and Windows platforms, but as of now it will also be available for iOS devices and Apple TV.
As per the recent reports by OnAir Live Developers, they have released OTT News app for Apple's digital media device as well as iOS platform that makes use of peer-to-peer technology commonly used by BitTorrent. This new update has exhilarated the users as this is the first app on Apple TV and iOS devices to use the BitTorrent technology.
The official app description read, "On The Trail -- Over The Top News brings you live video from the 2016 campaign trail. We will be broadcasting live from the New Hampshire Primary, key primaries throughout the season, the political conventions, election night in November, and the inauguration next January." The company in its blog post further added that "OTT News (On The Trail and Over The Top) has been on the scene with live video from the 2016 campaign trail. But that's not all that's unique about this election year "pop-up" show. OTT News has been broadcasting live to viewers each afternoon of the Primary using BitTorrent Live's first mobile app."
The highlighting factor is that this app uses BitTorrent Live, a peer-to-peer video streaming technology that allows the video to be showcased to a wider audience without a third-party CDN. This feature came in through live streaming on the desktop platform in 2011 but failed in just three years as users did not like the prospect of downloading a separate app. Additionally, the company wanted to focus on mobile streaming as it considered it to be a good idea.
In the blog post, the company further stated that developers must sign up if they wish to attain more information on the topic and to also learn as to how can they gain access to the BitTorrent Live Platform.
