Blackberry, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer company is planning to launch two smartphones in India with the name tag ‘Ghost’ and ‘Ghost Pro’ during this 2nd quarter. Blackberry licensee Optimus is currently working on a design, and to manufacture the bezel-less smartphones for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Both of the smartphones will come with similar powerful security features and also have a Blackberry Hub in terms of security features which will help to take all communications in one place.
Apart from two Blackberry smartphones the Canadian company will be planning to unveil more Blackberry smartphones in the coming future at various price tags, said Blackberry in a statement.
According to Hardip Singh, Executive Director at Optimus, “We are going to come out with a whole range of models starting with two this quarter. And during the year, we have more models planned out in the coming quarters. We have a strong pipeline of models which we will be bringing in and they will be at various price points.”
The renders of upcoming Blackberry smartphone were leaked by renowned tipster Evan Blass earlier in February. Based on the leaks he provided, it is anticipated that Blackberry Ghost will come with a larger 18:9 aspect ratio display along with bezel-less design. So far, we don’t know the hardware specifications of both, Ghost and Ghost Pro. Mr. Singh stated that all of the upcoming Blackberry smartphones will be equipped with DTEK app which helps to protect the smartphone in terms of security. Both of the smartphones will also have a Blackberry Hub which shows all of the communication at one place.
The quite interesting part is that upcoming Blackberry Ghost and Ghost Pro does not feature a QWERTY keyboard which was the key highlights of BlackBerry KEYone. The KEYone was manufactured by TCL and Blackberry licensee Optimus tweaked that the smartphone is little in terms of design and improved the internal storage capacity and RAM to make the smartphone market-friendly in India. The KEYone was launched previously in August 2017 at a price tag price tag of Rs 39,999
While addressing about the upcoming premium Blackberry smartphones in the competitive market, Mr. Singh said, “You cannot analyze a Blackberry device based solely on the specs. We feel that the specs that we are putting on the phone are optimum for it. You cannot single out a specific hardware choice and state the device is overpriced.
It doesn’t work like that. Blackberry, being Blackberry will always fetch a premium." He further explained, The cheapest Mercedes will still sell for Rs 25 lakhs and not at the price of a Maruti. Similarly, you can’t expect a Blackberry to come at a really cheap price, because there are some basic things we need to do to make a Blackberry into a Blackberry.”
“The reason that Blackberry devices are priced higher is that of the basic Blackberry DNA — Privacy, security, and convenience. These three are a given in any Blackberry device. Even if the price is Rs 20,000 or Rs 40,000”, said Singh.
Blackberry smartphones always offer strong features in terms of security which is a unique selling proposition (USP) for them and it is difficult to root the smartphones. The strong security features allow users to track the records of app activity in real time and it helps to access the location, contacts, messages, and much more in the background.
