The upcoming BlackBerry Mercury handset has faced an online leak, which claims that this flagship smartphone will bear Google Pixel like camera sensor. The tech journalist Roland Quandt has come up with the details of some BlackBerry camera files and it turns out that the upcoming BlackBerry mobile codenamed 'Mercury' packs in the same sensor, namely the 12MP Sony IMX378, which has been used in the Google Pixel smartphone.
As we know that the company has officially announced that the BlackBerry’s flagship smartphone is all set to be launched at the Mobile World Congress 2017. Though the launch date has been announced but the company has yet not disclosed the name and specifications and mobile market is on the toes with all sorts of rumors and the expectations about the same. It must be noted that the Google Pixel has caught everyone's attention with its class-leading image and video recording capabilities that somehow helped justify its premium price tag.

Now, perhaps the same strategy is being implied by BlackBerry for its upcoming flagship smartphone and hence the company has inserted the same camera sensor as that of Google Pixel. This comes as a surprise as the Mercury appears to be a business device, with its physical keyboard and squared out display than one that’s built for the common user for multimedia and entertainment. But even with its hardware camera in place, one cannot conclude that the performance would be the same to the Google Pixel as the majority of the work with the Pixel’s camera performance depends on software processing and algorithms. Earlier, Xiaomi Mi 5 has come up with the 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor, but the device failed to create similar camera effect as that of Pixel smartphones. So, it's better to wait and watch until the BlackBerry launches the mobile at MWC 2017.
