Google India is planning to release a cheap smartphone worth around Rs.3000. Rajan Anandan, Google India head said on Thursday that India will get an Android Based smartphone "that every Indian Wants" at a price tag of 3000 INR in the upcoming 12 to 15 months.
Currently there are many smartphones in this price but lacks 'functional' features or the software does not support many of the applications available in the market. Company launched Android in year 2007, since then Google is always aiming on the low budget phones and devices with most number of features and functionalities.
Last year in March, Google's executive chairman Eric Schmidt had said that "the day was not far off when a basic smartphones with a web browser and web client apps would be available in the market price of around 50 USD (Approx 3000)".
Anandan at Express Group's Idea Exchange programme added that "Compared to the US, where there are around 250 million mobile-based net users, and China, which has 200 million users, India will have over 300 million users by next year. That is a huge market". Google India Head also said that highly affordable devices, affordable data plans and robust bandwidth will support the internet boom in India, company is focusing on plans to join half billion Indians to internet.
