iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Editions released in India

Apple has finally released the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Editions in India. The special edition iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come enclosed in a matte red aluminum frame. The Red edition comes as a symbol of solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS and also draw attention towards prevention of the disease. iPhone lovers can get their hands on the special edition pieces through authorized Apple resellers.

The Global Launch of the two special RED Editions had taken place earlier this month on April 13. This is the second year in a row when Apple has released Red editions of its Flagship products. Apple turned RED to advocate(PRODUCT) RED campaign dedicated to combating HIV/AIDS in Africa. In the words of Greg Joswiak, Apple\'s Vice President of Product Marketing, “This special edition (PRODUCT) RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS.”

Interestingly, the first shipment of the special editions was bound for Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the UK and the US. All first world countries!!!!

India, which has the world’s 4th highest number of HIV/Aids cases will be the part of the third wave of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Editions launch countries. Further, availability has been scheduled post-May.

Reportedly, the iPhone 8 (PRODUCT) RED Edition’s 64GB base model will come with a price tag of Rs. 67,940, while 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 81,500. The price for the 64GB variant of iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Edition is Rs. 77,560 for the 64GB variant whereas the 256GB model could be yours for Rs. 91,110 only.

Part of the profits from the sale of Apple’s (PRODUCT) RED will go to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants. About $160 million (nearly Rs. 1,038 crores) was raised by Apple for the (PRODUCT) RED brand owned by (RED). The Global Fund uses grants for financing programmes for testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The primary focus remains on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. A noble cause indeed!!. This is not the first time when Apple has been part of an initiative and campaign of such stature. Reportedly, the charismatic Steve Jobs, Apple’s first CEO, had given the MACINTOSH for free to schools and universities.
