The punch hole display has been the trend of this year as Samsung has recently introduced the smallest high-resolution image sensor which dubbed as ISOCELL Slim 3T2. It is the most smallest sensor ever which is specially designed for hole-punch display flagship smartphones.
The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor takes only 1/3.4 inches (approximately 5.1-millimeters diagonally) space, claims Samsung and features 20-megapixel sensor. The company claims that the new camera sensor provided more high screen space to flagship smartphones even without compromising the high- quality images. The ultra slim sensor from Samsung comes with a 0.8μm-pixel ISOCELL Slim 3T2 delivers 20-megapixel (Mp) sensor for both front and rear panel in current flagship mid- range smartphones.
The latest ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor from Samsung is of 0.8-micron pixels giving out high-density color reproduction via Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus technology. The new ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor is said to capture brilliant and sharper pictures during the low-light conditions via the company’s Tetracell technology.

Merging 4 pixels into 1 and at the same time increasing the color filter array’s light sensitivity to 1.6μm-pixel image sensor at 5Mp resolution.
Jinhyun Kwon, VP System LSI sensor marketing at Samsung Electronics stated, “The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is our smallest and most versatile 20Mp image sensor that helps mobile device manufacturers bring differentiated consumer value not only in camera performance but also in features including hardware design.” By adding that, “As the demand for advanced imaging capabilities in mobile devices continues to grow, we will keep pushing the limits in image sensor technologies for richer user experiences.”
According to Samsung, the company has developed the ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor specifically for the punch hole or Infinity-O displays that can be used either for the rear or front camera. While the sensor will be based on a standard RGB color filter array instead of Tetracell.
Samsung reported that the production of new 20-megapixel ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor would start in the first quarter of 2019. The company is planning to unveil Galaxy S- series on February 20. It has to be seen whether the Samsung would offer the ultra slim sensor on the Galaxy S10 flagships or not.
