Mozilla To Discontinue Firefox Operating System Smartphones

Mozilla Foundation has fired its Firefox OS Smartphones from its product portfolio as the company has announced today that the company will stop developing Firefox OS and selling smartphones with this operating system. The decision of discontinue will never impact on the world of technology. However, the Firefox Operating System will still be working for the other connected devices and Internet of Things. The announcement of discontinue was made today at Mozilla’s developer event in Orlando. The first Mozilla OS smartphone was introduced back in early 2013 with the launch of GeeksPhone Keon and Peak.

Firefox OS smartphone was a really good concept from the Mozilla foundation but the demands were always seen below the expectations. Ari Jaaksi, SVP of Connected Devices at Mozilla confirmed about the discontinuation of Firefox OS: “We are proud of the benefits Firefox OS added to the Web platform and will continue to experiment with the user experience across connected devices. We will build everything we do as a genuine open source project, focused on user experience first and build tools to enable the ecosystem to grow.

Firefox OS proved the flexibility of the Web, scaling from low-end smartphones all the way up to HD TVs. However, we weren’t able to offer the best user experience possible and so we will stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels.

We’ll share more on our work and new experiments across connected devices soon.”

The Mozilla Operating System runs on several low-budget smartphones that include Spice Fire One Mi-FX 2, Alcatel OneTouch Fire C, Alcatel Orange Klif, Intex Cloud FX, Firefox U105, etc.
