Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer company is planning to launch a new selfie-centric smartphone in the Indian market, likely to be dubbed as Redmi Y2 which is to be scheduled on 7th June. The Redmi S2 was launched in China on 10th May as it was teased with best Redmi Selfie Phone till now in the Redmi series for capturing selfies. It is the first smartphone in the Redmi series which is being offered by the Chinese company. It seems that the Redmi S2 would come with the remodified name as Redmi Y2 in the Indian market. The Chinese company has shared the launch of the new Redmi smartphone via social media platforms throughout the country.

Name of the Redmi Y- the series smartphone is not mentioned in the official teaser as posted by the company, but the teaser suggests that it will be the "best selfie smartphone" hinting that Redmi S2 with the modified name Redmi Y2 will soon unveil in India. It must be noted that the Redmi S2 was teased as "best Redmi selfie phone" ahead of official launch. It launched with an artificial intelligence (AI) backed proprietary features as well as the new front-facing camera which is equipped with a 2-micron pixel size. The Redmi S2 is facing stiff competition with the recently launched Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Honor 9 Lite and among others.
According to the official teaser video posted by the company via Twitter account for Redmi India with the message reads, “Every step in your life is defined by a selfie. Find yourself, #FindYourSelfie…The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon.” The video also says that the new Redmi launch will be scheduled on 7th June in New Delhi. “Y” word is highlighted in the teaser video which pointing towards the launch of Redmi Y2. It is anticipated that Redmi Y2 is to be the successor of Redmi Y1 which was previously launched in November 2017 with selfie-centric features and an LED flashlight.
It is expected that Xiaomi is planning to launch the Redmi S2 with the modified name Redmi Y2 in the Indian market, instead of launching the new smartphone.
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 with 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,600), while its 4GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage variant has been priced at CNY 1,299 (around Rs. 13,700). Both of the storage variants will be available for purchase from 17th May particularly in the China market. The company has unveiled the selfie-centric smartphone in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold color options. As of now, the company has not announced the price details of Redmi S2 for India.
The Redmi S2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ display with the screen resolution of 720x1440 pixels and comes with a 70.8 percent NTSC color gamut. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, matted with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/ 64GB internal storage options that can be further extended up to 256GB by using the memory card.
In terms of optics, it packs a dual 12MP and 5MP rear cameras and a 16MP front-facing camera for capturing selfies and video calling. The front-facing comes with several features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock. Notably, the previously launched Redmi Y1 also comes with a dedicated memory card slot to provide the user\'s space for two SIM cards. Under the hood, the Redmi S2 is powered by a 3080 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone includes a 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Micro-USB port.
