The Japanese technology and smartphone maker Sony has announced to bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium and Z3 Plus phones in India. The announcement has been made via Sony’s official Twitter account. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is focused to enhanced privacy settings with app data permissions, a new camera interface with simple gestures for customization, Xperia Messaging, Smart battery life and Direct Share features. The update is about 1280MB in size and is recommended to back up your smartphone before updating.
Earlier, Sony Mobile UK (via XperiaBlog) had claimed while responding to a query on Twitter that Android 6.0 Marshmallow update would be rolled out to the Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z series on 7 March but it turned out to be not accurate as only Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium and Z3 plus have received the firmware update so far.
It's noteworthy that the Sony had officially launched the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium in India at Rs 52,990 and Rs 62,990, respectively, in October last year. While the Xperia Z5 was an update to the Xperia flagship line, the Xperia Z5 Premium took things to the next level on the display front. The new Sony devices were competing with flagships from other companies such as the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, Nexus 6P, among others. You can take a look at our Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium first impressions.
The company had launched the Z3+ in July last year. This phone replaced the incumbent Z3 as the flagship phone from the Japanese company. The camera performance is one of the best we have seen among the current crop of flagship devices, especially the SteadyShot videos and the battery life of the phone impresses.
In an official blog Sony has also written that the company will soon bring out the Xperia Marshmallow beta program to select Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z2 devices as well.
