Xiaomi, the leading Chinese smartphone manufacturing firm, on Wednesday, launched its all new Mi 5x smartphone along with the latest MIUI 9 (latest version of company’s custom ROM based on Android 7.0 Nougat). The highlighting features of Xiaomi’s new mid-ranged smartphone include a dual-rear camera set up, an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC, and enhanced audio quality. Moreover, the device comes with a metal unibody design language along with anti-fingerprint coating. The dual camera setup of the handset looks quite similar to the Apple iPhone 7 Plus.
Talking about the pricing and availability, the new Xiaomi Mi 5X will be available in Black, Gold and Pink colour variants with a price tag of CNY 1,499 (Rs 14,200 approx). The company has launched the smartphone in a single RAM/ storage variant, which is 4GB RAM/64GB inbuilt storage. The device will go on sale at 10 am on August 1 in China, however, pre bookings of it have already been started and have gone over 800,000 at the time of writing.
Concerning the specifications, the Android smartphone packs a 5.5-inch full-HD LTPS display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and runs the latest MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at up to 2 GHz paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of inbuilt memory space, which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD card.
In term of optics, the Dual-SIM handset packs a dual rear camera set up including a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with 1.25-micron pixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 1-micron pixel sensor and f/2.6 aperture. The rear camera set up of the handset offers a Portrait Mode for bokeh effects just like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5. A 5-megapixel front camera with real-time beautification mode is also provided by the company for shooting selfies.
The GSM handset is backed up by a 3080mAh battery and includes 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack as connectivity options. Sensors on the board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, infrared, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. The smartphone also comes with a high-quality audio output with DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm along with a standalone audio amplifier for improved audio quality via headphones.
