After several leaks and rumors, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi had confirmed the Mi Max launch by posting few images online. Today the company has officially unveiled its first phablet Mi Max and also the all new MIUI 8 based on Android OS. The Mi Max will be the first smartphone to run on latest MIUI 8 out-of-the-box. As of now there are more than 200 Million users around the world using Mi devices.
According to Xiaomi, the MIUI 8 China ROM will be available for beta registrations starting May 16 while testing of the beta build kicks off June 1. The company has announced that the first Developer ROM will be available starting June 17. The MIUI 8 Developer ROM supported devices include Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5, and Mi Max. The company says that the entire Redmi range and Mi Note series will be supported by MIUI 8 Developer ROM.
The Mi Max sports an all metal body with slightly curved edges on the back of the device. Talking about the specifications of the Mi Max, it sports a 2.5D 6.44-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. It comes in two variants powered by Snapdragon 650 hexacore processor and Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor. The recently launched Redmi Note 3 is the first device to use this processor.
The device comes with 3GB/4GB of RAM and includes 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage variants. It also includes MicroSD card slot for further expanding the storage up to 128GB. It is a dual SIM device supporting 4G LTE and VoLTE. It sports a 16MP rear camera with PDAF & f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP selfie camera with 85-degree wide-angle lens on the front.
It is backed by a 4,850mAh non-removable battery that can last more than a day of usage. The fingerprint sensor can be found the rear of the device unlike the Mi 5 where it was embedded into the physical home button. It measures 173.1 x 88.3 x 7.5 mm and weighs 203 grams. The device will be available in Gold, Light Gray, and Silver color options.
Coming to the pricing, the Snapdragon 650 powered Mi Max with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at 1499 Yuan. The Snapdragon 652 powered Mi Max with 3GB RAM and 64GB Storage is priced at 1699 Yuan, and the other variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at 1999 Yuan. The device will be available for sale starting from May 17th in China.
