Intel, a chip developing company has taken the possession of an Indian entrepreneur start up based upon deep learning Artificial Intelligence, named as Nervana Systems - a firm based in California. The acquisition gives the company to take steps towards machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and advanced data analytics.
Talking about the monetary aspects of the deal, there is not much to speculate but then according to the source Re/Code reports, the deal has been closed above $400 million to acquire the Nervana System from the head Naveen Rao, a former Qualcomm Researcher.
Executive Vice President of Data Center Group of Intel, Diane Bryant said some of the words regarding the acquisitions. She said, "We will apply Nervana's software expertise to further optimize the Intel Math Kernel Library and its integration into industry-standard frameworks," further adding, "Nervana's Engine and silicon expertise will advance Intel's AI portfolio and enhance the deep learning performance and TCO of our Intel Xeon and Intel Xeon Phi processors."
Intel has the privilege to power up nearly 97 percent of the servers which are currently handling the support machines learning workloads. Intel Xeon processor E5 group is the globally approached processor for deep learning inference and the recently unveiled Intel Xeon Phi processor gives the measurable performance aided for deep learning training.
The Executive Vice President also said that "While less than 10 percent of servers worldwide were deployed in support of machine learning last year, the capabilities and insights it enables makes machine learning the fastest growing form of AI," the Intel executive said. "We will continue to invest in leading-edge technologies that complement and enhance Intel's AI portfolio."
Talking about the Nervana Systems, the startup has recently raised $25 million in venture funding and also alliances with In-Q-tel, the US intelligence community's venture arm.
In this context, the Nervana systems head, Mr. Rao said that, "Raising money was not the problem. That was going to be relatively easy but by selling to Intel we have access to technology we'd never dream about."
