Microsoft, the US-based giant software manufacturing and developing firm has launched a free iOS camera application dubbed as Seeing AI. The unique thing about this application is that, with the help of Artificial Intelligence, it tell visually challenged people the things going on around them. For example, if the smartphone is pointed at a park, then the application will describe the complete scenario of the location. The application is now available at App store.
In the same way, the application is also able to tell the amount of your restaurant bill and can narrate anything it is pointed at. Microsoft stated that the application is basically designed to turn the “visual world into an audible experience”. The company said, “With this intelligent camera app, just hold up your phone and hear information about the world around you.” The company further added that the user will also be able to “recognise and locate the faces of people you\'re with, as well as facial characteristics, approximate age, emotion, and more.”
With the help of this application, visually challenged people around the world will be able to read the text just by pointing the Seeing AI application at the text. Moreover, it will also provide audio guidance on how to capture complete documents. The application also gives beep signals to help to locate barcodes and then automatically scans them to identify products.
Microsoft describes the Seeing AI application as “a free app that narrates the world around you. Designed for the low vision community, this research project harnesses the power of AI to describe people, text and objects.”
This is reportedly the latest project by Microsoft using the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Notably, Microsoft is not the only giant firm working on this technology, as some reports are there in the market that Apple, Google, Facebook and Amazon are also working on similar projects.
