It is New Year! and when everybody was counting down to start 2018 by wishing their loved ones, families, and friends, suddenly Whatsapp stopped working for many including Indians at the stroke of 12 AM. This became one of the problems for users as they used WhatsApp to wish Happy New Year at midnight and consequently, they couldn’t send the messages at sharp 12. The App shut down for approximately one hour around 12 AM to 1 AM as per the Indian time, thankfully the services are now working properly and WhatsApp is restored.
India which plays a significant role in WhatsApp market and is used by millions with a successive increase in numbers, this is the reason for heavy load on WhatsApp at midnight when the new year started. The WhatsApp Shut Down at 12 AM was obviously a reason for tension among the users. The downtime was expected because of the massive usage of WhatsApp to send in greetings and wishes to friends and families, and hence, the App crashed. Although the messages are shown with a single tick, they were not delivered to end-users, as it had not shown any blue tick. Instead of the fact that the internet for both the destined users was working absolutely fine.
After some time, angry users started on Twitter to talk about the problem with WhatsApp server. Some users received a message from WhatsApp as well stating that "Our service is experiencing a problem right now. We are working on it and hope to restore the functionality of WhatsApp shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience." Many people showed their outrage on Twitter with hashtags such as #WhatsAppstoppedworking and #WhatsAppisdown with funny memes and status.

Although Whatsapp had restored the app after 40 minutes, it went down again. As per the reports, this occurred because of some server problems due to which the WhatsApp went through across the world. Then after, around 1 AM in India, WhatsApp started working properly and services were rendered in a perfect manner.
The spokespeople of WhatsApp apologized, "WhatsApp users around the world experienced a brief outage today that has now been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience."
As WhatsApp started working properly, WABetaInfo Tweeted "WhatsApp is currently working now, and the team confirmed the server issue has been fixed. Note that it is possible that some outages may happen again in the next few hours, also if the worst is over." Albeit, there is no official announcement yet that WhatsApp will not occur with such kind of breakdown in services again.
This server down issue has become quite common in these days as this is not very first time we had experienced this sort of breakdown. Counting in last 5 months, the report of WhatsApp down had occurred for 3 to 4 times and the shocking news is that no one knows the reason behind this outage. Although, WhatsApp says the outage had happened due to server issues.
