With Internet being a major component of modern communication, user safety has become a prime concern. From personal information to more classified details related to national security, robust security is crucial when it comes to the online exchange of information. In lieu to generate Internet safety concern among the users, Safer Internet Day (SID) is organized by Insafe in February, every year. The top technological firm has appreciated the initiative and has supported the cause with many lucrative offers. This year Google has taken a step forward to encourage Safer Internet day by offering 2GB free Drive storage for all its users.
To avail the free service being offered by Google, a user just need to complete a short security checkup on their Google Account. The account security checkup process will make a user review his/her account recovery options, connected devices, services with permissions, and 2-step verification settings. Once the process has been completed, users will see a final page thanking them, with the words, "To help celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016, we added 2GB of free Drive storage to your Google account because you completed the Security Checkup".
Earlier, in November, last year, Google, gave 1TB of Drive storage for free if one contributed to making its mapping and navigation service better. As a part of the updated Google Maps Local Guides program, the firm rewarded people who added useful information to Google maps by putting up reviews, uploading photos, or marking tourist spots etc. Several other tech giants have introduced numerous plans to entice users to use their cloud storage services. In November, Amazon started offering unlimited photo backup at $1 and unlimited file storage at $5 per year. Apple in September bumped up the storage offered to pay iCloud subscribers, apart from slashing the subscription fee for higher storage tiers.
