SoundHound Unveils Voice Assistant App Hound for iOS and Android

The galloping of technology is no longer hidden from human beings, instead, we have started considering the technological advancement as an important part of our life. Also, as technology is advancing companies are bringing more and more alternatives for the same application. Adding to the same pipeline, SoundHound - best known for its music and discovery app has now officially released Hound Digital Assistant for both the Android and iOS platform.

The app originally got released as Beta version last year on the Android platform and in just two months almost 300,000 applicants showed their interest in the app that actually exhilarated the company. Apart from giving basic features such as alarm and reminder setting, the app offers many other features alongside for example it can check the weather, tell jokes both with a single tap or via voice command.

For now, Hound is also only available for users in the United States, but as always one can expect the company to release it in other parts of the world real soon. The app is available for free with no additional charges something that surely will make it stand in rivalry against other voice assistant apps like Siri, Google Now or even Cortana. In words of SoundHound CEO Mohajer, “We had this vision in the year 2000. We actually positioned the company to be the leader in that. We knew it would take many years. We were working on this well before Apple, well before Siri; we wanted to own all the core technologies. We wanted it to be a step change in quality.”

The app allows users to ask complex, and multi-layered questions since unlike many applications that use "speech to text" feature, Hound actually uses speech to recognition technology. It also utilises SoundHound's music search technology to help users recognise the song that is currently playing around them and works with a number of other apps like Expedia, AccuWeather, Xignite, Yelp, Uber, and FlightStats for providing services of currency translation, voice dialling, navigations, booking, and other mundane tasks.

To let developers design and develop apps meant exclusively for Hound, the company has also unveiled Houndify - a developer platform that allows developers to build their own domains and apps that interact with Hound. SoundHound also expects developers who want to make better use of voice search on their app leverage Hound's features.

Much like Siri and Google Now, Hound also offers hands-free voice search, however, this feature is limited to certain regions only and unlike either of the native digital assistants (mentioned previously), Hound doesn't work from everywhere i.e., user must keep the Hound app open in the background in order to use it properly.
