Uber has kept under the fire for its safety issues because of the recent assault case in Delhi. The California based Transportation Company has been giving its services from a long time internationally. But, the recent act by an unscrupulous Uber driver has put the Company’s safety for passengers on backburner. In order to regain the reputation and to make their system more improved, the Cab-booking service has decided to enhance its background checks by adding biometric screening.
To make the rides safe, the Company is working on some custom tools and techniques for improving drivers verification. The company wrote in a blog post, "We are also investing in ways to provide riders the instant ability to communicate with us and their loved ones in the event of an emergency." It is said that various techniques will use by the Company for driver verification and safe ride such as biometric scanning, voice verification and lie-detector.
Head of global user safety at Uber, Phillip Cardenas said in the same blog post, "We are also building Safety Incident Response teams around the world with the goal of providing 24/7, immediate support in the event of a safety incident." The safety issue came in lights when a female passenger raped by an Uber taxi driver in New Delhi, India a month earlier. Then, the International Cab service company has been banned to give its services in the capital of India.
It is also reported earlier that the Uber doesn’t has a fingerprint check to identify its drivers also. When will this improved background check introduce, is obscure. But, Uber needs to add the new safety checks as soon as possible before something more terrible would happen.
