WhatApp Extends its Group Members Limit to 256 from 100 Users

Just recently, chat messenger WhatsApp which now is owned by social media Facebook crossed a whooping milestone of having One billion monthly active users coming at par with the Google's free email service Gmail. When researchers probed further, it was found that WhatsApp witness almost 42 billion messages in a day out of which 1.6 billion is comprised of only the photographs while the rest is shared by videos (250 million) and almost 1 billion groups.

In the recent reports, it looks like WhatsApp has again pushed a silent global server-side update for both of its Android and iOS platform thereby expanding the numbers of users that can be included in a group. As per the new update, users will now be able to include 256 users replacing the old 100 user limit. iOS users will have to update their WhatsApp to version 2.12.13 if they wish to make use of this new add-on.

In the case of Android platform, users need v2.12.367 (or above) which they can also download from the company's official website. It is worth mentioning that the website has been uploaded with the latest v2.12.437 and though the update is made available only for the Android and iOS platforms, Windows phone, Blackberry and other similar mobile OS users too expect WhatsApp to come up with an update for their respective platforms.

Apart from crossing 1 billion users landmark, WhatsApp also got rid of its annual subscription fee (amounting to $1 or INR 68). This came as a surprise since the messenger always prompted users to pay the amount after one-year usage, but extended the duration automatically. The company also shows interest in bringing general public and business organizations on a common platform so as to enable them to have a direct conversation. Additionally, it is also rumored that in a short while, WhatsApp would allow users to connect their Facebook account as well which also gets displayed in version 2.12.413 launched by the company.

It has been reported that WhatsApp could soon introduce a feature to allow its users to integrate their Facebook account with the instant messaging and voice calling app. The version 2.12.413 of WhatsApp for Android reveals company's intention to allow users to link the messaging service with their respective Facebook account.
