Xiaomi Expected To Launch A VR Headset Based On Google Daydream On 4th August

Xiaomi is all set to unveil its first VR headset based on Google's Daydream platformer tomorrow. The headset uses a phone's display to drive the experience, similar to that of the Gear VR. A leaked image of the headset surfaced but that doesn't reveal much about the expected Xiaomi VR headset. Xiaomi will likely announce new hardware later this year for a Daydream-ready smartphone that can drive the headset. As we know that the Google had introduced the new Virtual Reality (VR) platform called ‘Daydream’ at this year’s Google I/O in San Francisco.

As stated above a rumor image surfaced yesterday, that claimed that Xiaomi, one of China’s largest smartphone maker is planning to introduce a Daydream-compatible VR device on August 4. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see how accurate was that rumor. If we go through the provided image, one will get to see what seems to be Xiaomi’s upcoming VR headset, even though we cannot confirm this image is legitimate, of course. Earlier it was rumored that this product might be launched on August 1st, but Xiaomi opted to postpone its launch until August 4th.

As already mentioned, this device is expected to be Daydream compatible, and considering this is Xiaomi we’re talking about, you can also expect the product to be quite affordable. The Xiaomi VR headset will certainly be considerably more affordable than its competitors from Samsung and a number of other companies. As a reminder, the company is also expected to announce the Redmi 4 handset soon, its real life images leaked earlier today as well.

We must be knowing that Google really went all out during this year’s Google I/O in San Francisco. The search engine giant introduced all sorts of new projects they’re working on during Google I/O, and they’ve also unveiled plenty of new software (and even some hardware) to the general public. Now, next to Android N, machine learning, and Android Studio update, Google had also introduced the new Virtual Reality (VR) platform called ‘Daydream’.
