The Chinese smartphone and gadgets maker Xiaomi has introduced the Mi Box 3 Enhanced Edition, which is an updated version of the Mi Box 3 media player, and is now available at a price of 399 yuan (approximately Rs 4,100) in China.
On the specification front, the device is said to have a faster processor that is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek MT8693 with a hexacore CPU (2 x 2GHz Cortex-A72 + 4 x 1.6GHz Cortex-A53) and PowerVR GX6250 GPU. The CPU performance is said to be 80 percent faster and the GPU performance 240 percent faster than the standard Mi Box 3. In other features, the device comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It also supports OpenGL ES 3.1.
On the connectivity front, the device has been incorporated with features that include WiFi 802.11ac 2×2 with transfer speeds up to 300Mbps and Bluetooth 4.1. The Bluetooth remote control has a sensor in it and users may use it to play the game available in Mi Box. It also supports H.265 10bit 4K@60 FPS with Dolby and DTS Sound and offers a wide variety of movies and shows respectively.
On the software front, it runs MIUI TV, which is based on Android 5.1. Xiaomi claims that its set-top box can run 10bit video files in H.265 codec for as high as 4K screen resolution at 60 frames per second. The Mi Box 3 Enhanced Edition also supports Dolby and DTS Sound.
In an official statement, Xiaomi said, "All of us like to compare a device’s performance by using Antutu. Mi Box 3 Enhanced edition scored up to 66,016 which almost doubled the Mi Box 3.” Xiaomi is also said to have improved the performance of Mi Box 3 Enhanced Edition up to 80 percent in terms of CPU and 240 percent in GPU 3D. The Mi Box 3 Enhanced Edition also includes a cooling system which automatically adjust the speed of a fan.
