India's First Monorail Project

Mumbai people will soon get rid of heavy traffic. Their dream of traveling in monorail come true. The trial of India's first mono rail is done on Friday stretch between Chembur and Wadala. The time taken to complete 10 km rail track is about 15 minute. Mono-rail project was implemented by Metropolitan Region Development Authority MMRDA with Larsen and Tourbro from 2009 which ends in 2011. Now, in January project is restarted.

Due to delays, first portion of the line, between Chembur and Wadala, is expected to be operational in January 2013 and the second portion, from Jacob Circle to Wadala, is expected to be ready by December 2013.

This project costs Rs 2460 crore in which 8 lines are constructed. MMRDA official says that there is no point in going for new routes. As long as the first route is not commissioned and the results are not out, till then they would not commission any new routes.

The complete network of 135 km is estimated to be developed by the 2013 year.
