It is an automobile manufacturer company founded in 1954 and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. When Ssangyong was founded, there were two different companies Dongbang Motor Co and Dong-hwan Motor and later on these companies were merged in to one. In early year, it was manufacturing trucks and buses for the US Army. In 1977, Ssangyong group acquired the merged companies and founded a new firm.
In February 2011, 70% shares of the company were acquired by Indian auto maker Mahindra and Mahindra. The company has various plants in South Korea, Russia and Ukraine. Its famous models are Korando, Actyon, Kyron, Rexton II, and Musso. Some of the models are replaced by the new models. After the drop in partnership between Daewoo Motors and General Motors, Ssangyong Motor Company started the supply of new vehicles. Mahindra and Mahindra won the bidding for the company and acquired the South Korean car maker.
