It is less than a year after the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited the Tesla’s state-of-the-art unit in Fremont, California, on July 15, the Indian Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari has visited the American electric car maker’s California based production plant, for establishing the production unit in the country. During the Visit, Gadkari talked to the senior official at Tesla to make India, Asia’s manufacturing hub, and also offered a piece of land to set-up EV (Electric Vehicle) plants near major Indian ports to facilitate exports.
What Tesla replied:
Tesla appreciated the offer proposed by the Indian government and said that it will be acknowledged at the appropriate time in future. The company also admitted that the new manufacturing hub has to be outside the US to target the international markets. Further, the giant electric vehicle producer confirmed that India will definitely be a recipient for the upcoming low cost Tesla Model 3.
The back to back visits of Indian officials suggest the importance given to the government’s strong focus on emission free vehicles, eco friendly fuels and furtherance of transportation infrastructure.
Recently in the news, the government has banned certain diesel powered vehicles in some major cities across the country and now emphasizing to bring the electric vehicles. These steps leading the country towards a pollution free India.
At the Tesla plant, Gadkari offered to promote joint ventures between global electric vehicle manufacturers and the Indian automobile makers with a goal to become India pollution free in road transport, mainly in commercial and public vehicles.
