Mini is set to launch its latest next-gen Convertible in Goa on March 16. The 2016 Mini Cooper convertible is the third model of the Mini family, which has been confirmed for the Indian market. The model lies after the Mini standard variants and the Mini Cooper S. The 2016 Mini Convertible carries the same design DNA platform identical to other Mini siblings, giving it a retro look. The exterior looks magnificent with the tweaked round LED DRL pattern, signature chrome grille and classic chrome-lined taillights.
Meanwhile, BMW India President, Philipp von Sahr, had stated already already at Auto Expo 2016, to introduce the Convertible and the Clubman in India by this year. The three-door soft top convertible is available with a longer size and comes based on the new UKL platform. The car is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the outgoing model. It also offers a 28mm longer wheelbase.
The Indian-spec Mini is likely to offer two engine choices- Petrol and diesel. The 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine shall be delivering 134bhp of maximum power output. While, the 1.5-litre diesel-run variant would be propelling maximum power output of 114bhp along with a peak torque of 270 Nm. Both the engines will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.
BMW India has also revealed that it will import the 2016 Mini Convertible to India as a CBU and it is expected to cost more than INR 35 lacs.
