For the celebration of 2016 Paris Motor Show, BMW has designed an innovative and material concept trim with the joint efforts of Garage Italia Customs. Based on the company’s run-of-the electric vehicles, both the BMW i8 Garage Italia Crossfade and the BMW i3 Garage Italia Crossfade will be appeared as a production unit by early next year. Such units will be featured with a new exterior color scheme, while no updates have been reported over the powertrains.
The common feature of both the vehicles is a ‘surface structure’ which gives special attention to the new innovative design and the state-of-the-art character in a fascinating way. Besides, the color design has been applied on the car based on the common painting style that was used in the late 19th century and early phase of 20th century.
“BMW i automobiles provide our designers with ideal opportunities for an artistic exploration of the future of mobility. The CrossFade project was a great opportunity to create something beyond the traditional idea of car painting, generating amazing effects with a unique geometrical pattern,” said Lapo Elkann, Chairman and Founder of Garage Italia Customs.
As the name implies, a Crossfade stance has been employed to both the BMW i8 and i3 Garage Italia Crossfade that is undergoing from Blue to Grey along the body. Up front, the i8 is shaded in Protonic Dark Silver, which smoothly transitions to the triangle designs as soon as you move side of the car, while the i3 houses a vertical fade against the horizontal on the i8.
“Lapo is a pioneer in linking the disciplines of fashion, automobile and design. As a designer, I find this comprehensive approach particularly exciting.”
“With BMW i models, we have been successful in overcoming previous restrictions in automotive design through the use of entirely new materials. So the progressive expressiveness of the Garage Italia CrossFade Edition is perfectly in keeping with the BMW i3 and the BMW i8.”
