And Finally, 2016 Skoda Rapid facelift has been launched in India at a starting price of INR 8.27 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new rapid facelift is available in three variants - the Active, the Ambition and the Style, and get both diesel and petrol powertrains. The petrol powered variants range from INR 8.27 Lakh to 11.36 Lakh, whereas the diesel powered models range from INR 9.48 Lakh to INR 12.67 Lakh. Both the price ranges are ex-showroom Delhi.
The 2016 Skoda Rapid facelift grabs the attention for revamped exteriors with more angular styling, and updated powertrain. The powerhouse includes a new 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine with several tweaks to enhance the resultant outputs. Now, the TDI engine produces maximum power of 110 bhp at 4,000 rpm while the peak torque of 250 Nm comes out between 1,500 to 3,000 rpm. The mill is paired with a 5-Speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. With the manual transmission, new facelift Skoda Rapid diesel motor offers a fuel mileage of 21.13 kmpl, while with the automatic transmission it achieves fuel economy of 21.72 kmpl.
The boost up in power is the result of heavy localisation and an addition of a locally inspired larger turbocharger unit. According to some reports, it is the same diesel engine that comes fitted in the recently introduced Volkswagen Ameo and also, can be offered with the upcoming Vento.
On the other hand, a 1.6-litre MPI four cylinder petrol engine will continue to power the new 2016 Rapid. The mill is tuned to produce maximum power of 103 bhp. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. It offers the fuel efficiency of 15.41 kmpl and 14.84 kmpl with manual and automatic transmission respectively.
On the designing front, the Skoda Rapid facelift shares some cues with the latest generation Superb and Skoda Octavia sedan. It hosts redesigned face integrated with a new front bumper, headlamp clusters and grille that is wider than the run-of-unit. In addition to this, the headlights will come up with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), whereas side profile remains unchanged. Moving on the rear section, it houses a new bumper and a spoiler.
On the inside, the cabin features the same space and a revised interior theme along with the slew of tweaks and new equipment. In terms of the features, it sports a new touchscreen MirrorLink infotainment system with Bluetooth telephony and Android Auto connectivity, premium leather upholstery for seats, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps along with auto dimming IRVM and reverse parking sensors with a camera. However, some of the features are limited to the high-end variant only.
For safety, it gets dual front airbags and ABS as a standard equipment across all the variants.
The new 2016 Skoda Rapid facelift has a long list of the competitors in the Indian market. It will lock the horns against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento.
