Draped in a full camouflage livery, the next-generation Toyota Fortuner has been spied on the Indian roads undergoing its test rounds. For the first time ever, we are seeing this car doing its trials here in the country. Reports suggest that the launch would either take place this fiscal or by the first half of 2017.
Markets like Thailand, South Africa, Australia, and Middle East, are already selling this car to ample number of prospective buyers there. Aesthetically, the new Toyota Fortuner flaunts more classy and bolder looks than the previous version. With lots of contemporary elements and sharp edges, the model under discussion would be one of the premium SUVs in the country when launched. As the car was wrapped from each corner, we couldn’t come up with much of the finer details, yet, the new Fortuner is being reported to be 90mm longer, 15mm wider, and 15mm shorter than the existing unit. The 2,750mm long wheelbase is identical to the model, which is presently on sale.

Interior-wise, the car takes a different move as compared to Toyota Innova Crysta. Top end grades have been armed by LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, Down Hill Assist Control (DAC) system, A-TRC Traction Control (TRC) system, electric tailgate, cruise control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 7-inch T-Connect infotainment system having satellite navigation, reversing camera, and start/stop push button.
Heading towards the mechanicals, the 2016 Fortuner has a probability of getting both petrol and diesel trims like the Innova Crysta. The former will be offered with two engine options, which are 2.4L or 2.8L four-cylinder turbodiesel GD units, whereas, the latter might go for a 2.7L VVT-i four cylinder mill, matched up to a six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission responsibilities in Fortuner are being handled by a six-speed manual and automatic unit. Moreover, a 4WD system could be a part of the top-end 2.8 variant as well.
