Audi is gearing up to launch the updated 2017 A3 in India on April 6 this year. The new Audi A3 boasts of updates in terms of both aesthetically and mechanically. The changes to its design cues laid through inside-out of the car along with a revised powertrain.
On the exteriors, the refreshed Audi A3 features a new single frame grille upfront similar to that of the Audi A4. Moving on the headlamps which are also inspired from the elder sibling A4, but still, the A3 might miss out the bespoke Matrix headlamps which are offered globally. At the rear, the tail lamps become sharper and sleek along with turn indicator mounted on them.
Step inside, and you will see a whole blacked out cabin aura. The dashboard and the upholstery are painted black along with plush leather and premium quality of material keep it upmarket. Other rich features of the upcoming 2017 Audi A3 include a 7-inch retractable display for the MMI infotainment system, climate control system, panoramic sunroof, powered front seats and front and rear parking sensors. Besides, the new A3 will come with a wireless charging box for smartphones. What she misses are carmaker's Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, engine start/stop button and keyless entry.
The major update to the 2017 Audi A3 lies beneath its hood. The carmaker will replace the more powerful 108 hp 1.8-litre engine with a smaller 1.4-litre TFSI engine which produces the maximum power of 150 bhp along with the peak torque of 250 Nm. This is the similar powerhouse that is fitted in Audi A4. This power mill is mated to 7-speed S-tronic gearbox.
For the diesel powertrain, the carmaker will plonk the powerful 2.0-litre TDI engine in new A3. The motor is paired with 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and develops the maximum power of 141 bhp and the peak torque of 320 Nm. The whole power is transmitted to the front wheels.
With the host of premium updates and more efficient powertrain, the refresh Audi A3 is expected to get a premium of around INR 1 – 1.2 lakh over the regular price. Once launched, it will lock the horns against the likes of newly updated Mercedes-Benz CLA, A-Class and facelift Volvo V40.
