Several rumours are now suggesting that the most renowned hatchback from Volkswagen, the Polo GT TDI, is going to drag a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine under its bonnet from Ameo compact sedan, which has recently made its entry into the Indian auto segment. However, the automaker has already started working on this unit and one of the test mules has also been captured on camera. If the emerging reports are to believe, the new Polo GT with a 1.5-litre motor will be available in the market by end of this year or early next year.
As you can see by the spied image no such changes are made to the exterior but it is certain the Polo GT will come up with a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. The German auto major initially offered this engine under the hood of Ameo compact sedan. Earlier, Volkswagen India has also upgraded its Vento sedan by incorporating same 1.5-litre Ameo sourced engine. As far as the performance is concerned, it is capable enough to run the unit with a power of 110 PS at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 250 Nm at 1,500-3,000 rpm. Power will be sent to the front wheels with the help of same five-speed manual gearbox.
Moreover, no such changes will be made to the dimensions and measures 3971 mm in length, 1682 mm in width, 1469 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2469 mm. Ground clearance is also same and rated at 165 mm. Some of the other regular features such as fully electric mirrors, climate control, day and night electric IRVM, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents will also be there.
Apart from these above, the company has recently launched a special edition Polo AllStar here in the country at a minimum price of INR 7.51 Lakh for the petrol variant. This special edition features a range of cosmetic tweaks and new styling, while beneath the hood, the car remains identical to its forerunner model. On the Inside, the AllStar features new seat upholstery with a single contrasting strip running down the centre, metallic accent pedals, foot-well lamps, centre armrest and rear AC vents similar to Vento.
