BMW has recently launched new 2018 BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport at Rs. 41.50 lakh. The new variant in the X1 line-up shows similarity with top-spec variant considering exteriors, interiors, and safety kit setup. There is still a difference that the X1 sDrive20d M Sport does not obtain BMW’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) system available with the top-spec trim, the xDrive20d M Sport.
The new trim is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine generating a maximum power of 190hp and paired to an 8-speed automatic converter which delivers power to the front wheels. This has similarity with the lower-spec variants Expedition and xLine which are available at a price tag of Rs. 38.50 lakh and Rs. 34.40 lakh respectively.

Apart from AWD non-availability and variant badge, the other differences are that both the xDrive and sDrive are different in equipment setup, xDrive gets the head-up display and sDrive obtains a smaller 6.5-inch infotainment screen than the xDrive which gets an 8.8-inch unit.
The BMW X1 competes for the Audi Q3 available at Rs 34.73-42.88 lakh and the Mercedes GLA at Rs 34.38-38.64 lakh, both are only available with AWD system considering the high-featured diesel variants. It also shows the high price tag of the X1 sDrive20d M Sport than competitors such as the Q3 30TDI Premium (Rs 36.53 lakh) and the GLA 200d (Rs 35.64 lakh), however, it is available with a higher level setup of kit. Recently, the Volvo XC40 has launched at Rs. 39.90-43.90 lakh, which runs on the all-wheel-drive system as standard setup across other rivals.
