One of the major American motorcycle manufacturers, Harley Davidson has recently been unveiled its product portfolio for the 2018 calendar year. The lineup was consisting the new Softail platform and the Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine. Prominently, the new V-Rod range was missing from this updated range of motorcycles, which has prompted rumors that the bike has been discontinued.
Harley Davidson V-Rod was introduced in the lineup in 2001, in order to attract new range of buyers and to combat against the Japanese muscle bikes. For this, the American bike maker developed its own radical racing engine- the VR100 with the support of their factory racing team. It took a span of time to get into its finished form. Earlier, only air cooled engine was in use by the automaker. But, the new water-cooled unit now facilitates high rev range and easy tuning for extraordinary performance. It was a major change from the company, but it was a necessary step to allure a new set of buyers. Other than the changes in the engine unit, some alterations which were witnessed was repositioning of fuel tank under the seat and moving airbox above the engine.
Over the years, the V-Rod kept improving and new variants like the Night Rod and the V-Rod Muscle were introduced. While purists scoffed at these radical changes in design, the V-Rod have cult status among the younger audience. However, with the increasing competition the V-Rod is now need to move to the next level. For now, the brand did not offer a new model for 2018 and there are no official words for any of its successor either.
