The 2018 Mercedes Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet have been revealed globally with a host of cosmetic upgrades. But the move doesn’t really come as a surprise as the upgraded S-Class has already been exhibited earlier this month. The S-Class gets interior and exterior upgrades along with the mechanical upgrades. The global public appearance of the updated S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe will take place at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, a couple of weeks from now. But the Mercedes has already given an overview of the upcoming.
New internals for both the S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe at the exterior and interior include new front and rear lights and tweaked dash with a 12.3-inch screen serving as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. A new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls shared from the new E-Class.
The major highlight is the OLED tail lamps which have wafer-thin layers of organic materials printed on a glass plate and made to illuminate. A total of 66 OLEDs inside each taillight makes it look absolutely gorgeous.
The powertrain line up is similar to the S-Class sedan. The replacement of the S550, the new S560 gets the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is claimed to spit out the maximum power of 463 hp and 700 Nm torques. The S63 is also loaded with the same 4.0 litre V8 engine that produces 603 hp and a massive 900 Nm of torques. However, the S65 is stuck to the same the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V-12 engine which is claimed to generate 621 hp of maximum power.
The power transmission duties on all the models are taken care by a 9-speed automatic except the S65 which is mated to a 7-speed auto transmission. The S560 coupe is equipped with the all-wheel drive system, while the S560 Cabriolet is paired with a rear-wheel drive.
Moreover, the S63 is in association with the all-wheel drive while the S65 is featured with the rear-wheel drive.
The 2018 S-Class cars have been updated with a bucket full of high techs in the next generation model. They get Mercedes’ latest COMAND infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and wireless charging as well.
