Good news coming up for the Piaggio Scooter fans in India. Piaggio is planning to launch its new Aprilia Scooter in India. The new Aprilia Scooter will also come up with a BS VI engine owing to the new emission standards in India. A spied picture of new Aprilia scooter has recently leaked on the internet. The new Aprilia scooter closely resembles the Storm 125 scooter, which was showcased by the company at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, ‘BS VI 160’ has been written on the sticker attached to the front apron of this scooter, which indicates an updated engine would be available in the scoter, unlike the earlier Aprilia SR150, which was powered by a 154.8cc engine.

The first glimpses of Aprilia SR scooter through the 'spied' image also indicate the same old yellow paint job as unveiled during the 2018 concept at Auto Expo. However, a few distinctions can also be seen. Talking about tweaks, the tyres in the new scooter appears to be slicker, unlike the dual purpose Vee Rubber tyres showcased in the 2018 concept. Adding to this, the stickering on the scooter has also been revised. However, what has not been changed is the color of the handlebar cowl. The handlebar cowl wears the same body-coloured yellow finish, unlike the concept model which carried a blacked-out panel.

As leaked from the company sources, Piaggio the parent company of Aprilia is also planning to bring the Storm 125 scooter to the company showrooms in India by the third week of April. However, the noteworthy details here is that current Aprilia SR 125 scooter model of Aprilia has failed miserably in terms of pegging a respectable sales figure hovering just around 200 unit sales since December 2018. This has prompt Piaggio to launch newer Storm 125 in the 125cc scooter segment. So, what this essentially means is that the ‘160’ sticker could just be a marketing gimmick from the company. Although, if we go by that side of the story, then there are chances that Piaggio has reworked on its plan to increase the popularity of its bestselling SR150 scooter by launching a more trendier and powerful storm variant.

So, what would be interesting to see is whether Piaggio will come up with the Storm 125 in April 2019 or it would launch the upgraded SR 150 with powerful BS VI compliant engine. Apart from this, Piaggio is also planning to launch a family oriented scooter called Aprilia Comfort in the Indian market in August this year.
