As the launch of the Aprilia SR 150 nears, the excitement can be seen on the faces of the budget-conscious buyers who are keenly waiting for it. But, the picture is portraying a different story here as the Italian company seems to be playing a strategic game in order to enter the Indian automatic scooter market. Apparently, the Aprilia SR Motard 125 has been spied at a Vespa dealership in Bengaluru.
The model in question is a replica of the SR 150 and hardly has any difference apart from the ‘125’ badge, which is placed on the right section of the front fascia. The 125 variant will be on sale in the country via the present Vespa outlets. Earlier, the brand has stated that it will establish fresh outlets exclusively to sell the SR series of scooters, however, the scenario seems to be different as we can’t see this thing to be happening. Probably, it may execute the plan later.
Beneath the seat, the Aprilia SR Motard 125 gets a 125cc engine that is being connected with a CVT transmission. The mill is capable of developing a maximum power of 9.46 BHP and a peak torque of 8.2NM. Bolted on a tubular steel frame, the scooter gets an assistance of telescopic forks up front and hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The braking setup comprises 220mm disc brake at the front while the 140mm traditional rear drum brake.
Though, we aren’t sure about this but, the Aprilia SR Motard 125 might be imported to the country for test purposes. The launch of its elder sibling SR 150 would probably take place later this month at a price of INR 65,000 (Ex-showroom). The eager wait by laymen people is quite natural as they’ll get a 150cc tourer at the same price as of a 125cc machine.
Envisioning the launch details of the SR 125 in India at this point of time would be too early. However, Piaggio has to bring the scooter in our market at a promising price in order to gain attention from the urban riders.
