The long wait of Indians to get their hands on an affordable M-series BMW model is about to end, as the company has officially announced the M2 Competition for India. The BMW dealers in India have been instructed to start accepting bookings for the new car, which is likely to be priced at around Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom). The BMW M2 will be officially launched and the deliveries will begin by the end of the year.
Apart from being the most affordable, the M2 is also the smallest car in the BMW’s popular M series. However, the car has been equipped with all the right features to be worthy of the line-up.

The new BMW M2 gets its power from a detuned version of the 3-litre, twin-turbo, six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 410hp power and 550Nm of peak torque. The same motor also powers the M3 and M4 in the series. The engine sends power directly to the rear wheels of the car. However, the Indian spec M2 is not likely to get the manual transmission, but only the 7-speed DCT transmission. The company claims that the automatic M2 will achieve a speed of 100 kmph in just 4.2 sec and a top speed of 250 kph. The performance of the car can be further increased by using an additional Driver’s package.
The BMW M2 is expected to be launched in three colour options - silver, orange and white. The company may also offer additional paint shades later on. The message that was communicated by BMW with its dealerships where the bookings are being commenced also says that each dealer has to reach the target of 2 unit sales by the time of the launch.

The BMW M2 Competition will get direct competition from the likes of the Porsche 718 Cayman in the price range. The Porsche car, while costs the same, has a less powerful 2.0-litre engine that makes 110hp power and 170Nm top torque.
