Report on January 2019 Car Sales India: Sales Down Across All Brands

Most of the prolific car brands in India have published their car sales report for the month of January 2019. The first impression of the sales report published by all car brands shows a major downturn in sales, which is quite surprising after positive sales result in the last month. Honda and Nissan are only the few car brands that have been able to attain significant sales figures. While other car brands like Suzuki and Mahindra have shown marginal sales growth in the month of January. Here is a detailed description of the sales performance of some of the popular car brands in India.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki has been able to capture a marginal growth (y-o-y) of a mere 0.2 per cent with a domestic sales figure of 1,39,440 units in January 2019. In the case of the export market, this Indian automobile giant has seen an 11 per cent slump in January 2019 observed 9,571 units sale in comparison to 10,751 units in last month of 2018. Maruti is aiming to capture a good sales figure with its latest offerings like all-new Wagon R and 2019 Baleno Facelift.

Hyundai Motors

Similar to Maruti, the sales performance of Hyundai Motors in January 2019 in Indian market is more or less disappointing. As per the data, this car brand has just been able to boost its sales by just 0.6 per cent observed 45,803 unit sale in comparison to 45,508 in January 2018. However, national sales head, Vikas Jain from Hyundai motors has stated that company has started 2019 with a cautious note and will peek strongly in upcoming months of 2019 owing to strong performance across all its new mobility offerings like Grand i10, Elite i20, and all-new Santro.

Mahindra & Mahindra

The first month of 2019 for Mahindra has also been upsetting like the other two brands mentioned above. Mahindra has been able to grow (y-o-y) by just 1 per cent in January 2019 in comparison to last year. A sales figure of 22,399 was noted by Mahindra in January 2019 in comparison to 22,360 units last month. However, overall the growth rate of Mahindra & Mahindra  is good in January 2019 observed 7 per cent, which is relatively better than other brands. The good sales performance include demand for its passenger and commercial vehicles in both the domestic and export market. Mahindra is currently engaged in the launch of its new SUVs, XUV300.

Honda cars

Honda is the latest flagbearer among all the Indian car brands when it comes to sales growth in January 2019. Honda has jumped above the automotive sales downturn and recorded a bolstering 23 per cent y-o-y growth in January 2019. Honda has observed a sales figure of 18,261 in January 2019 in comparison to 14,838 unit sale in last month of 2018. Currently, makers from this brand are engaged in bringing their much-awaited car, Civic to the Indian automotive space.

Tata Motors

Passenger vehicle segment of Tata has seen a slump in sales observed 11 per cent in January 2019. The company has been managed to sell only 17,826 units in comparison to 20,055 units last year. The export sales have been even more miserable for Tata motors in January 2019 observed a steeper decline of 37 per cent over the previous year. Currently, the automobile manufacturer is set for a global launch of its four new models rumoured to be unveiled at 2019 Geneva Motor Show 2019.The below-given tables present the category-wise Year-over-Year (YoY) sales growth of automotive vehicles in India.
