In 2012, SsangYong Rexton was launched in India and it was not a big success in terms of sales for Mahindra & Mahindra, as the full-size seven-seat competitors- Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner had much more things to offer. This year, there is more competition as many competitors have entered in the list like Mitsubishi’s Outlander, Skoda Kodiaq, Isuzu’s MU-X facelift and Honda’s new seven-seat CR-V. The new second-gen Rexton of Mahindra is named as Alturas G4 which will be launching on November 24, 2018. Given below are the important points to know about Mahindra Alturas G4:
On November 24, 2018, the Mahindra Alturas G4 will be launched and it will be available in two variants- 2WD and 4WD; the 2WD variant may miss out on a colour option, the Multi-Information Display, the sunroof panel and a hands-free boot opening system. The bookings have already been begun by the Mahindra dealership for the Alturas G4 at a price of Rs 50,000. From 26 November 2018 onwards, the model will be showcased at Mahindra showrooms.
The Alturas G4 will be rigid than the former SsangYong Rexton with an all-new body-on-frame setup and the weight is also less. The dimension of the new SUV is also larger in every aspect- 95mm increase in length (4,850mm), 60mm increase in width (1,960mm), 40mm increase in height (1,825) and 30mm increase in the wheelbase (2,865mm); which will result in more space in the cabin. The second-gen Rexton is a five-seater which is sold in foreign market and the Alturas G4 will come with seven seats.
The Alturas G4 contains all-new designs which make it look better than its forerunner. Additional features like a slim hexagonal grille, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), 20-inch alloy wheels with thicker rubber and LED fog and cornering lamps at the front make its different from other SUVs.
As compared to Rexton variants which retail between Rs 24.25 lakh (RX6 trim) and Rs 25.99 lakh (RX7), the new Alturas will be priced comparatively more. In spite of this, Mahindra will keep the price less than the competitors which will defeat them and will price the Alturas G4 at about Rs 27 lakh.
For the given price, the base diesel-automatic variant of the Toyota Fortuner (Rs 31.07 lakh) will be Rs 3 lakh higher than the Mahindra, while the Ford Endeavour whose starting price tag of Rs 26.33 lakh is slightly lesser. It also means that the Alturas G4 will undersell the Honda CR-V (Rs 30.65-32.75 lakh), the Mitsubishi Outlander (Rs 31.95 lakh, Ex-showroom, Mumbai) and the Skoda Kodiaq (Rs 34.84 lakh, Ex-showroom, India) and will share the price point with Isuzu MU-X (Rs 26.27-28.23 lakh).
