As we all know, Jeep Compass-the much-anticipated SUV is on the verge of launch in India, the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India has started accepting pre-orders for the car. Desirables can place their bookings at the token amount of Rs 50,000 through online, or at an FCA/ Jeep-exclusive showrooms in the country. Albeit, the launch and price details of the Compass have not officially been disclosed yet. Earlier, it was announced to hit the Indian ground in August this year. But, in the wake of pre-orders, the launch is expected sometime in July. While the pricing might be in Rs 18-20 lakh range depending on the variants.
Mr. Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India, while announcing pre-orders opening said, "We are already receiving overwhelming response to our new SUV. We have pulled out all stops to deliver the highest quality standard on the Jeep Compass and we are here to set a benchmark in the Indian SUV space. Customers will experience first-hand, the level of sophistication in the vehicle."
In India, the Jeep will introduce Compass in three variants of Sport, Longitude and the Limited. While, the choice of five colours including Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, Hydro Blue, Vocal White and Hip Hop Black as well as the 4x2 and the 4x4 wheel drive options will also be provided for the customer's preference.
The Jeep Compass is a locally assembled product as the localization levels on the car are up to 80 percent. For which, the Jeep India set up a manufacturing unit in Ranjangaon and it took 23 months to develop facility according to Compass production there. Manufactured here, the Jeep Compass will be shipped to the market with right-hand drive regulations such as Japan, UK, and South Africa by this year end.
Moreover, the MOPAR which will be an exclusive source for providing original equipped parts and accessories of the Jeep products, to launch soon to offer world class service experience for the potential customers.
Mechanically, the Jeep will provide two engine options for the forthcoming compass. One will be a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that spits out over 160 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. While, the other will be a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor, which is capable of producing over 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. To transmit these power figures to the road the four-wheel drive system will be connected to a 6-speed manual unit and an optional 7-speed automatic gearbox units. The offered driving modes including Snow, Sand, and Rock options, will confer electronic facility to tune power delivery and the dynamics of the SUV as per the owner's choice.
